As seen on my talk page, here's some general FAQ I typed up for you guys.
Q. Hey, I joined here hoping I could help, but what exactly can I do to help?
A. Simple! Just read some pages, fix typos. Delete tedious spaces that stretch out pages, capitalize words like Survivors, Infected, and Campaign names. Just be sure to read the sentence first to make sure the word is used in the form of a pro-noun. If that's a bit broad, you could test out some tactics, or put down your own! No one is perfect, and sometimes tactics are put up that don't actually work. Finding easter eggs in the games is also cool.
Q. Why do I keep seeing all these nbsp things every time I edit a page?
A. An nbsp is a "Non-breakable space". It's basically just a fancy way to code your text when you're too lazy to hit the space bar. Though it isn't put there on purpose, it's caused by the Rich Text Editor.
Q. What's a Rich Text editor?
A. A fancy shmancy editing tool the Wikia community provided to make editing "easier". Instead, it only makes things harder by actually deleting words, adding unneeded spaces, and nbsps everywhere you look. I suggest turning it off right now if you have it on (You can find the on/off switch under Preferences>Editing)
Q. How do I make my signature all colorful and unique?
A. The entire wiki uses a type of HTML code that is pretty simple once you learn how to use it. The codes are fairly obvious to the point you could experiment and probably find a new code. To add color to your font, just put <font color="__"></font> in your sig and fill it in like so: <font color="red">Hello</font> and it'll appear like this: Hello. There's a wide range of colors Wiki can use, and here is a list of them. To put a background color on it (like how mine has a black background with red text) you just put <span style="background:____"></span> and you would use it like: <span style="background:cyan">this</span> = this.
Q. Okay, I've got a signature, now where do I put it?
A. At the top of your page, you'll find a drop down menu and in the menu you'll find "Preferences." Once in Preferences, you'll see info about your status (User, admin, etc.) email, Edit count etc. and you'll also find a box for where you put your signature code. Then every time you put a ~~~~ it'll come out like your code. If your code is too long, don't worry! You can still use it! Just go to your user page, and on the URL right after your user name put in /Signature (for example, mine would be left4dead.wikia.com/wiki/User:Jo_The_Marten/Signature ) then put your code in there. Then go back to preferences and put in: {{SUBST:User:____/Signature}} with your username where the underscores are and it'll work.
Q. Hey! I saw this info on a page and it was incorrect!
A. As I stated before, no one is perfect. The administration may miss some things. If you find something incorrect, by all means, delete it! It's highly annoying to see people complain about info on a page and not do anything about it. Besides, if it does deserve to stay, we can always bring it back like it never happened. So don't be afraid to edit!
Q. <Member> was being annoying/mean to me! Block them plz!
A. Not a question, but I've seen this on occasion. If someone is getting on your nerves, we can't do much about that, and you'll just have to try your hardest to ignore them. If it's to the point that you're uncomfortable, we might tell them to leave you alone as we want our members to feel as comfortable as possible. But we can't block someone who posts constructive edits just because they're annoying. Now, if they're harassing you, that's a different story. We don't tolerate harassment. So no "I hate so-in-so" on your user page or talking about somebody's mother behind their back. We aren't in kindergarten anymore, so please try to be as mature as you can muster.
Q. I uploaded an image and it was deleted! Why?
A. I personally don't normally delete images unless: They are a duplicate of another file, it violates the rules (pornography for example), or if it's unused. So chances are, you just uploaded an image you didn't know was already here.
Q. How do I make a subpage?
A. As stated in how to make a signature, just go to your user page, and on the URL right after your user name put in /<Page name> (for example left4dead.wikia.com/wiki/User:Jo_The_Marten/FAQ ). It'll come up with a blank page that consists only of a single window that says "Start this page!". Just click that and type in it like you would any other page.
